Sailboat Charters Cost

By Ben

The cost of hiring sailboat charters depends on many different parameters that I am going to talk about in this post. If you want to know the yacht charter prices you have to understand how most yacht charter business deduct their costs before letting you get the boat. Well, in most of the cases, you are going to be asked for a certain amount of money depending on age, condition, season, geographical spot, time, model of the yacht, crewed or self commanded, etc. The pricing for such amazing luxury leisure services are not cheap, but who said that chartering a boat will be affordable for the average person. If you are serious about doing a really successful surprise to you and your family during the next (upcoming) summer holiday, you may consider going out in the ocean for at least one week and enjoying yourself while fishing, playing various water sports, sun tanning, smiling, partying, etc I would like to mention from the very beginning that the approximate price for a yacht charter somewhere in Bahamas or British Islands will come close to $300 USD per day, if talking about a really cool yacht charter.

So, let’s pass to the actual deduction of the parameters on which most yacht charter companies settle their prices. We are not going to give an approximate estimation for each of it, because it depends on too many factors. This post is created for beginners to have a general idea about how many figures should they be pulling out of their pockets whenever willing to do something really awesome during their vacation in a special place in this world.

The model of the sailboat charter
One of the main factors that you will be certainly priced for is the actual model. If we are talking about small flotilla boats that even don’t stand close to huge luxury cruise yacht charters than you won’t be definitely charged a high price. Nevertheless, serious sailboat enthusiasts should always make sure that he or she pays a careful attention. Sometimes, there is no use for paying more for a good looking model which does the same as a less known one.

The age of the yacht
Newer and more luxurious yacht with digital equipment, satellite internet connection and everything else included is definitely going to cost you a little bit more than a very old and rusty boat which doesn’t even have a normal kitchen. However, sometimes yacht chartering business owners will always try to remake their old vessels and implement some newer technologies in order to make them a little bit more attractive and maybe charge more.

The condition of the vessel
The model and the age of the yacht that you are about to hire for a certain price might not play such an important role if its condition is not the one that is required. This is very important because spending a week or even a month somewhere in the middle of the ocean on a yacht that hasn’t been checked even for those basic security measures can get you in big trouble. Nevertheless, as far as I know, boats with bad condition do not receive insurance and their owners are not allowed to use them in their business if they want to be able to return their investment and make their clients happy and satisfied at the same time. This is what you should know about yacht condition.

The chartering season
Summer is the most profitable business time for most boat, yacht and sailboat owners that why the probability that they will constantly and gradually increase the prices is relatively big. However, sometimes you might think about hiring a sailboat charter somewhere at the end of the summer, in order to avoid the millions of tourists that are attacking famous touristic destinations each and every year. Avoid paying more by avoiding crowded seasons.

Time of the day
Hiring a yacht only for several hours during the day is going to be a lot cheaper than doing it for a whole week, day and night. First of all, the rescue services are going to experience a lot more hassle trying to give you a hand at three in the morning, in comparison with the usual support that they might let you have during their usual work time, from 8 AM to 11 PM. So the time of the day and the period of rent influence the cost in many different ways.

Crewed sailboat charters
If one of the sailboat charters that you are about to hire has a crew, just for the simple reason that you cannot handle the command well, it is more likely that you are going to be additionally charged. Nevertheless, sometimes it seems that it all depends on the yacht chartering business that you are doing business with. If one is so serious about getting a crew made of a captain, a chef (at the kitchen) plus several more people, expect to pay more.

When you managed to sail on your own and be in charge of everything you are definitely going to spend less. However, sometimes resting and partying on such a yacht is all about not working so much and outsourcing all the important demands to someone else. That’s why people prefer to hire someone to take care of all the time consuming issues and do nothing expect enjoying themselves next to their family, friends, relatives, etc. You can also enjoy a vacation while testing a few sailboat charters somewhere in Caribbean, Bahamas, and Virgin Islands for example and test the waters (the prices). Remember – the more famous the geographical spot where charters are available, the more it is going to cost!
